Chibi Maruko-chan Anime

The first season of this beloved national anime, which began broadcasting in 1990 and celebrates its thirtieth anniversary in 2020, finally comes to Blu-ray for the first time. This release marks the first Blu-ray edition of the television series.

Momoko Sakura, better known as Chibi Maruko-chan or simply Maruko, is an ordinary third-grade elementary-school girl living in Shimizu City, now Shimizu Ward in Shizuoka City. She shares her home with her parents, older sister and grandparents. The story follows Maruko's lively everyday life with classmates such as Hanawa and Maruo and her close friend Tama-chan, portraying these casual moments from a distinctive perspective.

The original is the hugely popular manga serialized in Shueisha's girls' magazine Ribon. Based on the author's own childhood experiences, it inspires nostalgia in adults and offers children a fresh, relatable heroine, becoming one of the defining anime of the Heisei era. This is the first season of the popular series that continues to be broadcast.

The three Blu-rays contain episodes one through seventy, except episode eight, omitted for rights-related reasons. Because episode eight is absent, episode seven includes the next-episode preview for episode nine. Creditless opening and ending videos are included, together with an explanatory guide. The publisher specifies an approximate total running time of 1,670 minutes.

The voice cast includes TARAKO, Yusaku Yara, Kei Tomiyama, Naoko Watanabe, Masami Kikuchi, Tsutomu Kashiwakura, Yuko Mizutani, Mie Suzuki, Yuko Sasaki, Nobuo Tobita, Masako Miura and Hirohiko Kakegawa. The narrator is Keaton Yamada. Specifications are subject to change.
