Chiikawa Animation

Fun, a little bittersweet and sometimes unexpectedly tough: welcome to the everyday world of Chiikawa. Illustrator Nagano’s “something small and cute” began as a manga on Twitter in 2020, followed by collected books in 2021. Its endearing characters and surreal stories soon attracted a wide audience, leading to collaborations with clothing brands and popular shonen manga. The series received the Grand Prix at the Japan Character Awards 2022 and continued to grow in popularity among both women and men.

In 2022, Doga Kobo brought Chiikawa to television animation. The ending theme, Hitorigotsu, also appears in the original manga: Shugo Tokumaru composed the music, and Hachiware’s voice actor Masato Tanaka sings it.

Chiikawa always tries hard. Together with friends such as Hachiware and Usagi, this small, colorful cast experiences days filled with laughter, sadness and the occasional difficult challenge. This volume collects episodes one through forty.

The deluxe edition features newly illustrated anime jacket artwork and five postcards reproducing correction drawings by the chief animation director. It includes continuous repeat playback of the main episodes, the anime promotional video and a creditless version of Chiikawa Fortune Telling. A Nagano-illustrated acrylic block was offered only with the first production run and is not guaranteed.
