Journal with Witch Animation

Journal with Witch brings the television anime adaptation of Tomoko Yamashita’s manga to Blu-ray. Serialized in Shodensha’s FEEL YOUNG from 2017 to 2023, its eleven collected volumes have sold more than two million copies. The anime, which began airing in January 2026, explores the shared life of a reclusive novelist and her late sister’s daughter, separated by age and temperament. This second volume contains episodes seven to thirteen.

At her sister and brother-in-law’s funeral, novelist Makio Kodai impulsively takes in their daughter, Asa Takumi. Their unexpected life together transforms Makio’s previously quiet days. Unaccustomed to sharing her home, she feels anxious about living with the fifteen-year-old.

Having lost her parents and her sense of belonging, Asa encounters loneliness for the first time. She also discovers Makio’s unconventional, seemingly unadult way of living, so different from her mother’s. Makio struggles with people and prefers solitude; Asa is friendly and straightforward. With contrasting personalities and values, they begin an awkward shared life, feeling their way forward as two people learning to live alongside their own loneliness.

Promotional videos and commercials accompany the episodes. Episode eight includes a commentary by sound director Takahiro Omori, sound-effects artist Eiko Morikawa and recording mixer Ryoji Kameda; episode thirteen features director Miyuki Oshiro, writer Kohei Kiyasu, animation producer Yumi Sato and producer Tomoki Ueda. The tall case comes with a newly illustrated Kenji Hayama slipcase, a clear bookmark and stickers reproducing color artwork from the original manga. Its forty-page booklet includes story and character introductions, cast comments and interviews, production materials, an interview with composer Kensuke Ushio and a discussion between producers Yumi Sato and Tomoki Ueda.
