Beyond homesickness, to a place from which there is no return. The long-awaited second television season of this fully realized adventure story!

Made in Abyss, serialized to acclaim in Web Comic Gamma, returns for its second television anime season. The first season aired in 2017 and became a major hit through the overwhelming world of the unexplored Abyss and the harsh developments awaiting Riko and her companions. Two compilation films, Journey's Dawn and Wandering Twilight, followed in 2019. The 2020 film Dawn of the Deep Soul attracted widespread attention for its powerful story, impossible to watch without tears. The continuing second television season began airing in July 2022.

The original first-production announcement offered a box with new artwork by manga creator Akihito Tsukushi, a digipak with new artwork by character designer Yuka Kuroda, and a special Abyss Exploration Records: Golden City Arc, Last Volume booklet of approximately 40 pages with detailed episode explanations and setting materials. It also offered a collection of director Masayuki Kojima's storyboards and an end-card portrait, designed to deepen fans' understanding of the work. All five are historical first-production inclusions listed as no longer available by the retailer; they are excluded from the current regular-edition offer.

Story: In a world explored in every corner, the Abyss remains the last unexplored region: an immense vertical pit whose depth is unknown. Strange creatures live there, and precious relics beyond the abilities of present-day humanity lie dormant. Its mysteries fascinate people and drive them toward adventure. Those who repeatedly challenge the pit gradually become known as Cave Raiders. Riko, an orphan living in Orth at the edge of the Abyss, dreams of becoming a great Cave Raider like her mother and uncovering its secrets. When the White Whistle of her mother Lyza is discovered, she decides to descend into its depths. Reg, an amnesiac robot she found, joins her to search for his memories. In the fourth layer, Riko suffers from the poison of a Tamaugachi and is saved by the Hollow Nanachi. With Nanachi joining them, the three proceed to the fifth layer, where Bondrewd awaits. There they meet Prushka, a girl raised by Bondrewd without knowledge of the outside world. Enthralled by Riko's adventures, she wishes to accompany them, but becomes a victim of Bondrewd's experiments. Changing form, she becomes Riko's White Whistle, and the group advances to the sixth layer, the Capital of the Unreturned. There stands the Village of Hollows, whose residents live according to their own values.
