Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari Animation

A young man whose life was shattered by tsukumogami, a young woman saved by them, and the spirits who bring them together: beneath one roof, bonds and love begin to grow. The second chapter of the television adaptation of Onigunsou’s popular Ultra Jump manga arrives on Blu-ray. BN Pictures, known for Tiger & Bunny and Gintama, produces the anime. In this chapter, the paper-umbrella tsukumogami at the root of Hyoma’s desire for revenge begins to move.

Objects that have existed for many years eventually develop hearts and become tsukumogami. Those entrusted with divine power speak with these spirits and guide them back to Tokoyo. Hyoma Kunato, heir to one of the three leading families carrying out this duty, hates tsukumogami after losing someone dear to him. In Kyoto, the ancient capital, Botan Nagatsuki heads a household where she lives with six tsukumogami whom she loves as her family.

Trapped by his past, Hyoma continues to seal away tsukumogami by force. His grandfather Zohei urges him to listen to their voices and guide them instead. To learn to judge them anew, Hyoma must stay as a guest with Botan and the Nagatsuki family. Holding completely opposite feelings towards tsukumogami, Hyoma and Botan meet and begin life under the same roof. People and spirits weave a story of the bonds between them.

This third volume contains episodes thirteen to eighteen. Onigunsou supplies new slipcase artwork, while character designer Shiori Fujisawa provides a new inner-jacket illustration. A booklet and six key-animation art cards accompany cast commentaries for episodes sixteen and eighteen, together with creditless opening and ending sequences.
