Mashin Hero Wataru Special Price Edition Blu-ray Box revisits the adventure that begins with an ordinary school craft project. Fourth-grader Wataru places a jewel found beside a pond on the clay robot he has made and names it Ryujinmaru. Soon afterwards, a golden dragon carries him into another world.

There, the mountain of Sokaizan has lost the colours of its rainbow under the rule of the evil Doakudar. A prophecy names a hero called Wataru as its saviour. With Ryujinmaru transformed into a towering companion, Wataru sets out alongside the energetic ninja Himiko, swordsman Shibaraku and the bird-shaped Kurama to restore the mountain's freedom.

This collection pairs the original 1988-1989 television series with the Shin Mashin Hero Wataru OVA. Extras retained from the 2013 box include creditless opening and ending sequences and commentaries on episodes 22, 29, 31, 39 and 44, featuring members of the cast including Mayumi Tanaka, Megumi Hayashibara, Tomomichi Nishimura, Koichi Yamadera, Tessho Genda and Kazue Ikura.

Across nine region-free Blu-ray discs, the main programme runs approximately 1,168 minutes. The presentation uses a 4:3 image in 1080p with Japanese Linear PCM stereo audio and no subtitles.
