As their paths cross, their high-school baseball story begins to move again. Eko Mikawa’s hit Shonen Jump+ manga Oblivion Battery, which began serialization in April 2018 and had accumulated more than 200 million views in the app, received its long-awaited television anime adaptation in April 2024. Its unusual amnesiac protagonist, appealing characters, realistic depiction of high-school baseball and finely balanced comedy and serious drama have earned the series an enthusiastic following.

A talented creative team brings this fresh, passionate baseball and coming-of-age drama to the screen. Makoto Nakazono, whose directing work includes Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man, makes his series-directing debut; the experienced Michiko Yokote handles series composition, with character designs by Dance Dance Danseur’s Hitomi Hasegawa. MAPPA, known for Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan The Final Season, animates the story.

The cast brings the players’ strong personalities to life. Toshiki Masuda, Iori Izumi in IDOLiSH7, plays the formidable pitcher Haruka Kiyomine, renowned on the middle-school circuit. Mamoru Miyano, Osamu Dazai in Bungo Stray Dogs, plays Kei Kaname, once acclaimed as a brilliant catcher but now reduced by amnesia to a beginner’s baseball ability.

Yohei Azakami, Guel Jeturk in Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, plays Aoi Todo, the powerful-armed shortstop known for forceful hitting. Nobunaga Shimazaki, Akira Kagiura in Sasaki and Miyano, plays the second baseman Shunpei Chihaya, whose precise bat control and speed disrupt the bases. Yuki Kaji, Eren Yeager in Attack on Titan, plays Taro Yamada, the calm, kind and level-headed teammate everyone trusts. Yoshitaka Yamaya, Muku Sakisaka in A3!, plays Kazuki Tsuchiya, a timid center fielder with little stamina but exceptional speed. Takeo Otsuka, Mark Ishii and Kengo Kawanishi join them as rival players from other schools.

Haruka Kiyomine and the sharp-minded Kei Kaname once formed a seemingly unbeatable middle-school battery. Scouted by powerhouse schools around the country, they unexpectedly enroll at Tokyo Metropolitan Kotesashi High School, a school with no baseball reputation. Kei has also lost his memories and his knowledge of the sport. By coincidence, gifted players who once lost to them and subsequently turned away from baseball have enrolled at the same school. These encounters set their baseball lives in motion once more.

Volume 4 presents the final three episodes and includes the fourth behind-the-scenes feature and commercials. First-press packaging extras, when present, include an outer case, a digipak featuring newly drawn Hitomi Hasegawa artwork, a leaflet and a memory sticker; these first-press items are not guaranteed.
