Released in Japanese cinemas in April 2022, the hit animated film Odd Taxi: In the Woods arrives on Blu-ray. The television series, first broadcast in April 2021, drew widespread attention for an intricately constructed mystery and suspense story that belied its cute visual style. The film reassembles that story while also showing what happened after the series’ shocking finale.

Odokawa is an eccentric, taciturn taxi driver who spends his days driving through the city, trying to live an ordinary life with as little contact with other people as possible. Then he unexpectedly becomes entangled in the disappearance of a high-school girl in Nerima. More than a hundred million yen, a gang with unclear motives, rising idols and a university student growing into a charismatic figure become caught up in the case as events spiral into chaos.

The execution of a certain plan suddenly brings matters together. Amid much sadness and absurdity, the chain of events appears to reach a conclusion—or so it seems. Those involved begin giving their accounts of what really happened at the time.

Piecing together their testimony reveals a new outline of the incident. The event that transformed one taxi driver’s life takes on a different shape, and the gears of fate begin to turn once more.
