Takuya Kimura returns in the latest Judgment legal suspense story
Actor and artist Takuya Kimura reunites with SEGA's Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio as protagonist Takayuki Yagami. Answering requests from fans in Japan and around the world, this became the studio's first simultaneous worldwide release.
In Yokohama, a new setting, the former lawyer turned detective takes on a substantial legal suspense drama that goes beyond its predecessor. Kimura is joined by Hiroshi Tamaki, Koji Yamamoto and Ken Mitsuishi, with Akira Nakao returning from the previous game. Toshihiro Nagoshi serves as general director, with a script by Tsuyoshi Furuta.
A case that should have been an ordinary trial reveals a mysterious tale of revenge, and the story takes an unexpected direction. Truth has been lost. So has justice. What will these memories that have never been judged reveal to Yagami? A new authentic legal suspense story begins, confronting you with the ultimate choice: law or justice.
More varied investigation action
Uncover the mysteries behind the case using a wide range of investigation actions. Familiar skills include tailing, chases and disguises.
New athletic actions let Yagami climb walls, make his way along buildings and sometimes leap between them to infiltrate enemy territory. Stealth is indispensable when moving covertly through hostile areas. The Buzz Researcher detects signs of trouble before they develop, while a detective dog helps lead you to clues. Use these new elements to investigate the truth and become more immersed in each case.
Enhanced battle action
Anyone can enjoy the distinctive action battles of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. The number of fighting styles has increased to three, letting you switch according to the situation and unleash stylish attacks.
Crane uses acrobatic attacks in every direction against groups of opponents. Tiger demonstrates its strength in one-on-one fights through a fierce succession of attacks. The new Snake style reads an opponent's attacks and uses their own force to defeat them.
School Stories, side cases and minigames
At a high school that becomes an important setting, Yagami's interactions with distinctive students create new dramas. Experience a wide variety of action activities, including boxing and dancing, and discover sides of Yagami that you would not normally see.
Many side cases and minigames familiar from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio titles are also included.
A new setting: Yokohama's Isezaki Ijincho
Alongside Tokyo's Kamurocho, Yokohama provides the setting for a new drama. Fight, play and unravel the case's mysteries across this vast area.
The beginning of the story
December 2021. Tokyo District Court.
Saori Shirosaki of Genda Law Office is defending Akihiro Ehara, a 53-year-old serving police officer. Footage of Ehara groping a passenger on a train, then becoming enraged as those around him restrain him, has been repeatedly broadcast in the media. Public calls for a harsh punishment are consequently strong.
At the very moment a fair trial delivers a guilty verdict, Ehara suddenly rises from the defendant's seat, interrupting the judge.
“Three days ago, a body should have been found in an abandoned building in Yokohama. Have you identified it yet?”
The courtroom is bewildered by this apparently inexplicable statement. Ehara continues:
“Then please tell the Kanagawa Prefectural Police. The body's owner is Hiro Mikoshiba. Four years ago... he drove my son to suicide... he deserves to die a thousand deaths.”
Ehara has not lied. In fact, Mikoshiba's brutally murdered body has been discovered in an abandoned building in Isezaki Ijincho. However, the estimated time of death coincides precisely with the time Ehara committed the offence on the train.
Ehara openly implies that he knew about Mikoshiba's murder beforehand and was either part of the group responsible or its mastermind. Yet his own conviction for the train offence has given him an ironclad alibi. If that entire incident was staged for this purpose, he is an exceptionally provocative criminal who treats the law with contempt.
A detective pursues the truth, and faces a choice between law and justice
Saori, who has defended Ehara as a train groper, begins to suspect that she has made a major oversight. She asks detective Takayuki Yagami to investigate.
By coincidence, Yagami is already in Yokohama investigating bullying at a high school. To resolve Saori's doubts about having been used by Ehara, he begins pursuing the truth behind Mikoshiba's murder.
As the investigation advances, the full extent of a revenge plot becomes clear. But the case starts drawing in Public Security, prosecutors and semi-organized criminal groups, once again turning developments unpredictable.
Their conflicting agendas produce new victims. As Yagami continues seeking the truth, he eventually faces the decision: law or justice. Truth has been lost. So has justice. What will these memories that have never been judged show him?
