The 13 Lords of the Shogun Original Soundtrack Vol. 1 accompanies a new interpretation of Hojo Yoshitoki, the man who secured the age of the samurai.
Written by hit-maker Koki Mitani, the 2022 production is the sixty-first NHK Taiga drama. Its protagonist is the Kamakura shogunate's second regent, who learned everything from Minamoto no Yoritomo. How did a young man without ambition rise to the top of the warrior class? The story follows the power struggles unfolding in the new capital, Kamakura.
The music is by Evan Call, the American-born, Japan-based composer behind screen scores including Violet Evergarden. The main theme is performed by the NHK Symphony Orchestra under Tatsuya Shimono, dramatically coloring the lives of characters who raced through the turbulent years from the late Heian to early Kamakura period.
