The Devil Is a Part-Timer! Animation

The part-time Demon King is taking on childcare? The everyday fantasy returns for its long-awaited second television season, based on Satoshi Wagahara’s novels with more than 3.5 million copies in circulation. Following the first anime’s popular 2013 broadcast, Studio 3Hz, known for Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online, brings the story back to the screen. Ryota Osaka, Yoko Hikasa and Nao Toyama return, joined by new characters including Alas Ramus, a mysterious little girl who appears from an apple and leaves the Demon King and Hero facing an unexpected parenting challenge.

They were enemies as Demon King and Hero in Ente Isla, but in modern Tokyo Sadao Maou and Emi Yusa still have to work hard for a living. Alongside the residents of the Demon King’s castle and lovestruck high-school student Chiho, they adjust to life in Japan and weather its economic demands.

One day the mysterious girl’s arrival throws the castle into confusion. Between sudden childcare, a succession of visitors from Ente Isla and the continuing need to earn enough to support the household, there is little chance for a quiet life. The Demon King’s castle is a single six-tatami room: the second act of this down-to-earth fantasy begins with plenty of upheaval.

This volume collects episodes one through six, with a slipcase newly illustrated by 029, a digipack newly illustrated by Yudai Iino and a special booklet. Episode-one commentary features Osaka, Hikasa and Toyama; episode-four commentary brings together Osaka, Hikasa and Hina Kino. Video extras include the creditless opening With and Blu-ray release commercials. The newly written Volume 4.1 novel by Wagahara was a first-production-only bonus and is not guaranteed.
