Story Will these young people discover the world's contradictions, or a just meritocratic society? Kiyotaka Ayanokoji enters Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School, a prestigious school said to have a one-hundred-percent rate of advancement to further education or employment. However, his first-year Class D is full of troublesome students who hardly seem to belong at such a school. The school gives students points equivalent to one hundred thousand yen every month, and adopts a hands-off policy that even tolerates chatting, sleeping and skipping classes.

The students fall into idle lives, but someone senses that something is wrong: Suzune Horikita, a beautiful girl who avoids contact with others and maintains her solitude. She notices that, although the students are supposedly given a large amount of money, the school offers many forms of assistance for people without money. After one month, Ayanokoji, Horikita and the other members of Class D learn the truth behind the school's system.
