Haruka Nanase’s story reaches its final chapter. Loved by the water, what will he grasp beyond the end of his swim? Swimming has brought him irreplaceable days and friends whose bonds have grown alongside him. His performances captivate those who watch, touch their hearts and create miracles again and again. The boy has become a young man, and his friends are setting out along their own paths. Carrying all their feelings, he now faces the world stage.

Why does he swim? What does he keep swimming for? Haruka challenges himself to reach the future beyond the water and a sight he has never seen before.

After his first world competition, Haruka becomes trapped by the swimming of the absolute champion, Albert, and loses his freedom. “Why do you swim?” The question forces him to confront the meaning of swimming and his relationship with the water. Struggling and suffering, he feels himself sinking alone toward a dark bottom.

Driven by an impulse that seems to tear at his heart, Haruka deliberately chooses punishing training and throws himself into practice. He understands how severely he is exhausting both his body and mind. His friends can only believe in him and watch over him. Albert’s cold, dry swimming flashes through his thoughts: he must become faster, stronger, and face Albert once more. Haruka’s strokes cut through the heavy, icy water, with his friends beside him. What sight will he find beyond his swim?

The supplementary programme includes cast stage greetings held on April 23, May 1 and June 30, 2022; newly filmed cast interviews in three groups; theatrical commercials and trailers; and a cast audio commentary. Staff-talk and producer-talk screenings are not included.

Announced first-press extras feature a Kyoto Animation case and digipak in the Part 2 design. The digipak uses a YORKE. painting, collaborating with a newly illustrated three-sided clear case. A Part 2 connecting clear visual sheet and Free! The Final Stroke Special Book were also announced. These first-press items are available only while supplies last and are not guaranteed.
