Kamitsubaki City Under Construction Anime

Seven years after a catastrophe devastated human civilisation, the advanced research city of Kamitsubaki is making a remarkable recovery. Yet beneath its prosperity, monsters known as Tesseractors are born from human malice and desire. Only the voices of five girls called the Witchlings can resist them. Armed with songs that can change the world and its fate, they fight to protect the peace of a city surviving in a broken world.

Volume 1 contains episodes 0-4 and the episode 1 Director's Edition, for approximately 165 minutes of programme material. The Director's Edition covers the events of broadcast episodes 0 and 1 in the same arrangement as the advance theatrical version. Clean opening and ending sequences are also included. The main programme has Japanese Linear PCM 2.0 audio with no subtitles; selected bonus footage uses DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1.

Developed by KAMITSUBAKI STUDIO from 2019, the story explores the hidden mysteries of a virtual city and the struggle to restore its order. The anime brings together the project's music and fictional world through the five members of V.W.P: KAF, RIME, Harusaruhi, Isekaijoucho and KOKO. Ayane Sakura, Miyu Tomita, Yohei Azakami, Shuichiro Umeda and Mai Todo voice the familiars who can take both Tesseractor and human forms. Shizuka Ito plays the chief of reconstruction, a biological AI created for the city's recovery and defence, and Hikaru Midorikawa is also part of the cast.

SMDE produces the animation, with world-building and original scenario supervision by Souki Tsukishima, direction and series composition by Kodai Kakimoto, and character designs by PALOW. The production also features sub-character designs and chief animation direction by Yuka Aono, CG direction by Yuya Ishihara, art direction by Ken Naito, colour design by Miyuki Sato, photography by Tsunetaka Ema, editing by Tomomi Umezu, sound effects by Yasushi Inomata and music by Kento Asahina. KAMITSUBAKI STUDIO and PIEDPIPER develop the original project, with original planning by Kenjiro Harigai and Hiroyuki Akiyama of THINKR.
