Kyoto, 1951. Ichika, the 34-year-old eldest daughter of Kuwanoki, a traditional restaurant with a history stretching back two hundred years, had lost her husband in the war and was working as a chef at a hotel. With Kuwanoki on the brink of financial collapse, the family arranges for Amane, the 19-year-old third son of an influential Osaka family, to marry into the household in exchange for financial support. Ichika has taken a husband fifteen years her junior, while university student Amane is determined to turn Kuwanoki around. Little by little, they begin to trust each other as partners at work, slowly drawing closer as husband and wife, and as a man and a woman. In volume three, Kuwanoki loses its chef when the head chef leaves to work at another restaurant. Encouraged by Amane and by the hotel chef who has helped her, Ichika decides to become Kuwanoki's head chef herself. But customers are staying away, and the reborn Kuwanoki is off to anything but a smooth start. On her first job, cooking at a regular customer's home, Ichika cannot satisfy guests who were expecting her predecessor's cooking and feels downhearted at her lack of skill. In the midst of it all, what last-ditch plan do Ichika and Amane come up with?
