Kinnikuman Animation

The new Kinnikuman story, the Perfect Origin Arc, comes to animation at last. The legend continues with the series that helped drive Weekly Shonen Jump’s remarkable circulation growth as one of its flagship titles in the 1980s.

The television anime that began in 1983 averaged viewing figures of twenty percent, inspired seven theatrical films and helped make the Kinkeshi capsule-toy figures a major craze, with more than 180 million figures shipped. Kinnikuman became a phenomenon reaching far beyond the page. In November 2011, it unexpectedly returned as a weekly manga, continuing the story directly from its Weekly Shonen Jump days. That new story, the Perfect Origin Arc, is the basis of this adaptation.

Kinnikuman, a prince from Planet Kinniku at the far end of the universe, came to Earth and was repeatedly mocked as a useless Chojin. After unexpectedly qualifying for the Chojin World Cup, the tournament that determines the world’s greatest superhuman, he achieved a miraculous victory—and then defended his championship the following year.

He became a central figure among the Justice Chojin protecting peace throughout the universe. With the power of friendship and companions such as Terryman and Robin Mask, he fought off the Devil Chojin seeking to rule the world and the Perfect Chojin intent on wiping weaker superhumans from the Earth.

His achievements earned recognition, and after overcoming the final trial of the Survival Match for the Kinniku throne, he inherited the crown from his father as the acknowledged fifty-eighth king of Planet Kinniku. He returned home from Earth, married and brought eight years of battle to an end. About a year and a half later, the entire universe should have been at peace—but something was about to change.

This box collects all twelve episodes, numbered zero to eleven. The jacket features new artwork by animation character designer Hirotaka Marufuji. The included Perfect Origin Arc Full-Colour Premium Kinkeshi box contains seven figures: Kinnikuman, Terryman, Robin Mask, Warsman, Ramenman, Brocken Jr. and Geronimo.
