Luminous Witches Animation

They are witches even if they do not fight! Luminous Witches brings the story of an unusual group who protect people’s smiles through singing and music to television animation.

Announced in 2018 as a major project for the tenth anniversary of the World Witches series, which includes Strike Witches, the Allied Air Force Airborne Magic Musical Band Luminous Witches drew attention by offering something different from the witches who defend people in combat. Its performers began activities after auditions, releasing four singles and two collections documenting their activities before the anime’s debut.

The group also performed on major stages at Minna de Dekiru Koto and Music Festa. In February 2022, they successfully held their first solo concert, Luminous Witches 1st LIVE: On Your Mark! Their long-awaited television anime followed in July 2022.

This story records the activities of a separate unit in the same world and at the same time as the 501st Joint Fighter Wing Strike Witches. These witches do not fight. Labelled unfit for combat, they gather around Ginny, a girl with a mysterious air and the potential of a Night Witch.

Turning the small abilities each of them possesses into song and dance, they work their way up from rock bottom and bring smiles to people around the world. Their performances and their determination offer another way to protect others.

The release includes a visit to the SHAFT animation studio with Ami Aimoto and Rino Yoshikita, alongside creditless endings.
