Mazinger Z Anime

Celebrating Mazinger Z’s 50th anniversary: seven outstanding original theatrical films return in a 4K remastered box! The theatrical adventures of Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, Getter Robo and UFO Robo Grendizer, released at the Toei Manga Festival between 1973 and 1976, have been restored from their original 35 mm negatives using 5K scanning and 4K HDR remastering. Vivid images bring a new incarnation of the Mazinger film series to life. Character colours, fine details in the artwork and backgrounds, and scenes previously too dark to see return with richer expression.

These seven theatrical originals cross the boundaries of their television series: Mazinger Z joins forces with Devilman; Great Mazinger makes his startling appearance before his television debut in Mazinger Z vs. the Great General of Darkness; super robots assemble in the decisive battle against the giant sea monster; and Battle of the Space Saucers introduces Gattaiger, a prototype of Grendizer. These CinemaScope productions can be enjoyed more fully than ever before.

UHD disc 1 and Blu-ray disc 1 each contain Mazinger Z vs. Devilman, Mazinger Z vs. the Great General of Darkness, and Great Mazinger vs. Getter Robo. UHD disc 2 and Blu-ray disc 2 each contain Great Mazinger vs. Getter Robo G: The Great Aerial Clash, Battle of the Space Saucers, UFO Robo Grendizer vs. Great Mazinger, and Grendizer, Getter Robo G, Great Mazinger: Decisive Battle! The Giant Sea Monster. The same seven films appear in both formats. The standard Blu-rays use a 2K downconversion of the 4K remastered material.

Mazinger Z vs. Devilman: Dr. Hell joins forces with the Demon Tribe to defeat Mazinger Z. Koji Kabuto encounters Akira Fudo, Devilman. Although they initially oppose one another, they promise to fight together. When the combined mechanical-beast and demon forces capture Devilman, Mazinger Z sets out to rescue him with the new Jet Scrander.

Mazinger Z vs. the Great General of Darkness: The Mycenaean Empire, descendants of the ancient Mycenaeans, assembles seven armies under the Great General of Darkness and attacks the surface. Its combat beasts are several times stronger than mechanical beasts, and Mazinger Z seems about to suffer his first defeat. Suddenly, a new hero emerges from the sea: Great Mazinger!

Great Mazinger vs. Getter Robo: The terrifying space monster Gilgilgan attacks Earth from the distant reaches of space. The Science Fortress Institute and Saotome Laboratory confront it. Driven by rivalry, Getter Robo and Great Mazinger first fight separately, but its sharp fangs force them to retreat. They establish cooperation and begin a joint operation.

Great Mazinger vs. Getter Robo G: The Great Aerial Clash: A mysterious spacecraft attacks and damages Saotome Laboratory, destroying the Bear machine and killing Musashi. Great Mazinger struggles against the spacecraft’s light-wave beast, Pikudron. The Getter team returns with Benkei as its new crew member and its newly completed Getter Robo G. Together with Great Mazinger, equipped with the Great Booster, they challenge the beast to a decisive battle.

Battle of the Space Saucers: Duke Fleed, prince of Planet Fleed, loses his home world to the invading army led by King Yaban. Escaping pursuit, he reaches Earth, but the invaders threaten this planet too. Duke boards the UFO robot Gattaiger and confronts the Yaban invasion force.

UFO Robo Grendizer vs. Great Mazinger: To defeat Grendizer, King Vega of the Vega Allied Forces sends his guard commander Barendos to Earth. Barendos captures Koji, who has rushed into battle, and discovers Great Mazinger’s location. When Daisuke launches in Grendizer, he faces Great Mazinger controlled by Barendos!

Grendizer, Getter Robo G, Great Mazinger: Decisive Battle! The Giant Sea Monster: A mysterious giant sea monster suddenly appears off Torishima. It is Dragonosaurus, believed to have become extinct in ancient times. To counter it, the government plans a powerful robot force. Grendizer, Getter Robo G, Great Mazinger, Koji Kabuto’s Double Spazer, Dianan A, Boss Borot and Venus A gather one after another and challenge the monster.

Video extras include a teaser and trailer for Mazinger Z vs. Devilman, and trailers for each of the other six films. The 5.1 audio is partly synthesised from surviving recordings rather than an original theatrical surround recording; some films do not have this alternative track.

Its contents were This Is a UFO! Flying Saucers; Mazinger Z, the theatrical blow-up of episode 5, The Ghost Mazinger Appears; Mazinger Z vs. Dr. Hell, the blow-up of episode 57, Dr. Hell Occupies Japan; Getter Robo, the blow-up of episode 6, Dinosaur! Operation Tokyo Hijack; UFO Robo Grendizer, the blow-up of episode 7, Even If It Costs My Life; UFO Robo Grendizer: Showdown in the Red Sunset!, the blow-up of episode 49, I Saw My Brother in the Red Sunset; and a trailer collection. These limited extras ended when first-press stock was exhausted. Amazon explicitly states that first-press versions are no longer supplied, so the leaflet and bonus disc are not included in this current listing.
