Final Fantasy VII is reborn as a new story
Final Fantasy VII Remake is created by key staff members behind the original Final Fantasy VII, released for PlayStation in 1997.
A timeless classic that captivated many people with its grand story, appealing characters and visuals using the most advanced technology of its day is reborn, years later, as a new story.
Using technology that was impossible twenty years earlier, the world and characters of Final Fantasy VII are recreated with greater realism. Combining command-based battles with intuitive action makes the combat experience more strategic.
Based on the original story up to the escape from Midgar, this is the first installment of the planned remake series and includes original elements.
Story
Mako: life energy drawn from the planet.
Midgar: a layered city with eight mako reactors.
The giant Shinra Electric Power Company, which has gained control over the world through mako, clashes with Avalanche, an anti-Shinra organization that has risen to protect the planet.
Cloud, a former SOLDIER, joins Avalanche's operation to blow up Mako Reactor 1 as a mercenary.
In Sector 8, the echoes of the reactor explosion still resonate.
In a city engulfed in flames, a vision of an old enemy thought dead shimmers before him.
Guided by the phantom of a past he wants to erase, he meets her.
A woman selling flowers offers him a yellow flower.
In the language of flowers, its meaning is reunion.
At that instant, black shadows surround the two: the arbiters of fate.
Now, their feelings once again flow around the planet.
Command battles and intuitive action
The highly strategic combat system combines command-based battles characteristic of Final Fantasy with intuitive action.
Identify an enemy's weak points and behavior patterns, then choose magic and abilities.
Each character has a distinctive play style: Cloud mainly fights at close range with his sword, Barret excels at ranged combat, and Aerith specializes in magic.
Wait Mode
Opening the command menu during battle activates Wait Mode, slowing the passage of time and giving you time to consider your strategy carefully.
Assess enemy weaknesses and the situation on the battlefield to choose your next command, such as an ability or spell.
Classic Mode
Setting the battle difficulty to Classic makes action take place automatically. Battles can progress by selecting commands that consume ATB.
This lets players who find action difficult enjoy a style closer to the command battles of the original Final Fantasy VII.
Materia
Equipping materia in weapons and armor lets you use abilities such as magic and call forth summons.
Combining materia can also change its effects.
Weapon growth
You can strengthen weapons by unlocking the abilities of the core materia hidden within them.
Each weapon has a dedicated weapon ability, and using that ability increases its proficiency.
Summons
With summoning materia equipped, you can call a summon when the summon gauge fills during certain battles.
Summons fight automatically, but you can also spend a player's ATB to order them to use special abilities. When they depart, they unleash a powerful finishing move.
