Shinji Muroi: Ikitsuzukeru Mono brings Toshiro Yanagiba's former police official back into a case he hoped to leave behind. Directed by Katsuyuki Motohiro and written by Ryoichi Kimitsuka, this second part of the 2024 film pair follows Muroi's attempt to build a different life after his years within the police organisation.

Having resigned and returned to his hometown in Akita, Muroi lives quietly with boys whose families have been affected by crime. He wants to support the relatives of both victims and offenders, but the discovery of an apparent murder victim near his house unsettles that fragile peace. The arrival of Anzu, the daughter of the notorious Manami Hyuga, draws another thread from his past into the present.

The dead man is identified as a member of the group involved in the Rainbow Bridge case that Muroi once commanded. His former colleague Shinjo, now head of the Akita Prefectural Police, asks for help, and Muroi begins working with the young detective Sakura from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police. Then Riku's father returns after serving his sentence, forcing Muroi to confront how little time a family may have together. His unfinished promise to Aoshima remains part of the story as his determination to protect others takes a more personal form.
