Shinji Muroi: Yaburezaru Mono returns to the life of the police official played by Toshiro Yanagiba, now far from the organisation that once defined him. Katsuyuki Motohiro directs this first chapter of the 2024 film pair, with a screenplay by Ryoichi Kimitsuka and music by Satoshi Takebe.

Muroi has spent his career defending investigators in the field and attempting to reform the police from within. Unable to fulfil the promise he made to Aoshima 27 years earlier, he resigns and returns to his native Akita. There, he shares a quiet life with young boys, finally trying to protect a family of his own rather than an institution.

That peace is interrupted by the sudden arrival of a mysterious girl and the discovery of a body believed to be a murder victim. The girl is Anzu Hyuga, daughter of the notorious killer Manami Hyuga. Soon, police officers, helicopters and vehicles crowd the remote Tohoku mountains, and the world Muroi left behind begins to close in on him again. Riko Fukumoto and Jun Saito join Yanagiba in the cast.

The standard-edition Blu-ray presents the 115-minute film with its teaser footage, trailers and television spots. It includes Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround and 2.0 stereo tracks, plus a separate Japanese 2.0 audio-description track. Japanese subtitles accompany the main feature.
