The Eminence in Shadow Anime

The red moon rises. The hour of awakening has arrived.

The hugely popular series, with more than five million copies in circulation, returns for its second television anime season, first broadcast in October 2023. This serious comedy of spectacular misunderstandings follows a boy who yearns to become an eminence in shadow. He wants to be neither the hero nor the final boss, but an apparently ordinary background character who conceals his abilities, intervenes secretly in the story and quietly demonstrates his power. After spending his days training while remaining unnoticed, he is reincarnated in another world.

His next stage is the Lawless City, ruled by three powers: the Blood Queen, the Spirit Fox and the Tyrant. Dragged there by his sister Claire to hunt the Blood Queen, ruler of the vampires, Cid is thrilled by the perfect opportunity to act as an eminence in shadow. Following television animation, a mobile game, merchandise and other media adaptations, the popular story begins its second season in October 2023.

The original release advertised lavish first-production extras, including a slipcase newly illustrated by original character designer Tozai and a serial code for The Eminence in Shadow: Master of Garden mobile game. Video extras include the familiar miniature-character anime's sequel, Kagejitsu! Second. These Blu-ray and DVD releases record Shadow Garden's secret exploits. Volume 1's initial production additionally advertised a priority ticket-sales application for a cast event. First-production packaging and extras are conditional and are not guaranteed with this offer; the independent retailer reports them no longer available.

Story A boy who longs to become an eminence in shadow dies before achieving his ambition and is reincarnated in another world as Cid Kagenou. He decides to enjoy his invented role, acting as Shadow, the one who hides in the shadows and hunts the shadows, and forming Shadow Garden with his accommodating female followers to oppose a dark cult.

It was all supposed to be a product of his imagination. Yet the Cult of Diablos really exists, and without Cid's knowledge, Shadow Garden is fighting it. Their next stage is the Lawless City, governed by the Blood Queen, the Spirit Fox and the Tyrant: a place filled with criminals where the strong prey on the weak. Claire brings Cid there to defeat the Blood Queen, ruler of the vampires, and he is excited by the rare opportunity to play his chosen role.

A conspiracy surrounding the Blood Queen begins to move, and the three factions clash across the city. Claire is caught up in the turmoil, while Shadow Garden pursues its own actions. Amid mounting chaos, Cid intends to work unseen as Shadow. The red moon rises. The hour of awakening has arrived.

Includes episodes 1–4 of main programme plus bonus video. Regular extras are creditless opening version 1; all four versions of the creditless ending; web previews for episodes 1–4 in both normal and special versions; and episodes 1–4 of Kagejitsu! Second.

Conditional first-production extras The original first production advertised a Tozai-illustrated slipcase, an event priority-sales application, a special digipak, a special booklet, storyboards and original drawings, and a Master of Garden mobile-game serial code. These extras are not guaranteed with the current offer.

The event application concerned May 26, 2024, at Matsudo Civic Hall. That event and its ticket application period are historical and have passed.

The originally advertised game code offered one single-draw ticket guaranteeing an SS character, 100 Crystals of Wisdom, 200 equipment boxes, 100 large magic-juice gummies and one highest-quality magic-power liquid. The advertised redemption deadline is December 31, 2026, at 23:59. The deadline may change without notice. Expired codes are invalid and cannot grant rewards. The first-production codes in Blu-ray and DVD volumes 1–3 provide identical rewards, with a limit of one code from each volume per account. Further requirements are specified by the game's official service. An unused, valid code is not guaranteed with this offer.
