The Eminence in Shadow Animation

The red moon rises, and the hour of awakening has arrived. The hugely popular series returns for a second season of its spectacularly mistaken, serious comedy.

Based on the light novel series The Eminence in Shadow, which has surpassed five million copies in total circulation, the story follows a boy who dreams of becoming the hidden power behind events. He wants to be neither the hero nor the final boss: he conceals his abilities, lives as an inconspicuous background character, and intervenes in secret to reveal his strength. After training while keeping a low profile, he is reincarnated in another world. The popular work, which has expanded into television animation, an app game and merchandise, continues its story in the second season.

Now reborn as Cid Kagenou, the boy decides to enjoy playing the role of an eminence in shadow. He becomes Shadow, one who lurks in the shadows and hunts the shadows, and forms Shadow Garden with the girls willing to join his game, supposedly to fight a dark cult. It should all have been a product of his imagination. Yet the Cult of Diablos really exists, and, without Cid knowing, Shadow Garden is already fighting it.

The next stage is the Lawless City, ruled by three powers: the Blood Queen, the Spirit Fox and the Tyrant. It is a brutal world of outlaws where the strong prey on the weak. Taken there by his older sister Claire to defeat the Blood Queen, ruler of the vampires, Cid is thrilled by this unparalleled opportunity to act as the hidden power behind the scenes.

A conspiracy surrounding the Blood Queen begins to unfold, and the three factions become entangled in the city’s upheaval. Claire is also drawn into the turmoil, while Shadow Garden pursues its own actions. Amid the deepening chaos, Cid plans to move unseen as Shadow. The red moon rises, and the hour of awakening has arrived.

The dark yet comic exploits of Shadow Garden continue, alongside the familiar miniature-character adventures in Kagejitsu! Second. Permanent video extras include the creditless opening in version 3, promotional videos and commercials, web previews in their normal and special versions, and the chibi-character anime.
