Ultraman TV Series

The history of Ultraman begins here. Released to commemorate the hero’s fifty-fifth anniversary, this collection returns to the original 1966 series, whose distinctive world and imaginative stories captured audiences and reached a reported peak television rating of 42.8% during its original broadcast.

While pursuing the escaped space monster Bemular, a being from Nebula M78 collides with the small VTOL Beetle flown by Hayata of the Science Special Search Party. To save the gravely injured patrolman, the alien merges with him, shares his life and vows to work for peace on Earth. Hayata confronts monsters alongside his teammates, transforming into Ultraman when danger demands a giant hero.

All 39 episodes are presented using the HD Remaster 3.0 restoration, developed from the earlier Blu-ray master. The publisher explains that its EQAS processing removes distracting noise while retaining appropriate film grain, and MGVC encoding preserves the restored picture.

The accompanying Premium Talk documentary gathers testimony from 69 people: original production staff and performers, together with creators and cultural figures who love Ultraman and were influenced by it. Across thirteen chapters, they explore the hero’s planning, design, filming, scripts, special effects, music, editing, narration and lasting impact, including a previously unreleased interview with the late screenwriter Shozo Uehara. Newly unearthed 8mm footage reveals the original production at work. The collection also includes an Ultraman chocolate commercial, script-display functionality and surround-audio versions of ten episodes.
