Space Battleship Yamato Anime

In 2199, attacks by the mysterious interstellar empire Gamilas have brought Earth close to destruction. Radiation from planet bombs has contaminated the surface, and humanity has retreated into underground cities that offer only temporary refuge. With Earth's defence forces defeated, a message arrives from Queen Starsha of Iscandar, 148,000 light-years away. Her planet possesses the Cosmo Cleaner D, a device capable of removing the radiation, and her message carries plans for a Wave Motion Engine far beyond humanity's existing technology. Yamato sets out on the voyage on which Earth's survival depends.

The 1977 animated theatrical film features Goro Naya as Captain Juzo Okita, Kei Tomiyama as Susumu Kodai, Hideo Nakamura as Daisuke Shima and Yoko Asagami as Yuki Mori. The ensemble also includes Taichiro Hirokawa as Mamoru Kodai, Ichiro Nagai as Tokugawa and Dr Sado, Takeshi Aono as Sanada, Akira Kamiya as Kato, Kenichi Ogata as Analyzer, Yoshito Yasuhara as Kenjiro Ota, Masayuki Ibu as Dessler and the Earth Defence Force commander, Keisuke Yamashita as Hiss, Osamu Kobayashi as Domel, Takeshi Obayashi as Schulz and Michiko Hirai as Starsha, with narration by Akira Kimura.

This EMOTION Big Jacket edition presents the 135-minute film in a 32 cm square jacket. It also includes the alternative theatrical ending depicting Starsha's death, the theatrical trailer and television spots. A still-image archive reproduces selections from the theatrical pamphlet, an overseas brochure and production settings. Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio stereo and monaural tracks are included; there are no subtitles.
