The Rising of the Shield Hero Animation

Revered yet w(e)ary. The fourth season of the hit rise-to-power fantasy began its television anime broadcast in July 2025.

The original light novel began on the web-fiction site Shosetsuka ni Naro and surpassed twelve million copies in print and digital editions. Beginning with its first television anime season in 2019, the series continued through three seasons and won fans in Japan and abroad with the overwhelming scale and high-quality visuals befitting its rise-to-power fantasy. In the third season, Naofumi confronted the other three heroes and reached a reconciliation as the Phoenix, one of the Four Guardian Beasts, approached its resurrection.

The fourth season takes Naofumi and his companions to Siltvelt, the demi-human country from which the only connecting ships depart, as they seek to protect Raphtalia from Q’ten Lo’s assassins. Some of the people they encounter do not welcome them. Their continuing rise begins on a new stage, with a story that gains further depth as new characters join the familiar company.

Preparing to face the Phoenix, Shield Hero Naofumi Iwatani confronts the other three heroes in order to bring the feuding Four Cardinal Heroes together, eventually reaching a reconciliation. A misunderstanding, however, leads others to believe that Raphtalia intends to claim the throne. Assassins from a country called Q’ten Lo begin targeting her life.

To negotiate with Q’ten Lo, Naofumi visits Siltvelt. The demi-humans who worship the Shield Hero welcome him enthusiastically, but Siltvelt is far from united, and some do not welcome Naofumi and his companions. Q’ten Lo is also gripped by political instability, and Raphtalia is elevated into a symbol of revolution. In this increasingly chaotic situation, can Naofumi become the light that guides his companions?

Video extras include the creditless opening and episode previews. The original first-production bonuses were a jacket featuring newly drawn character-concept and anime artwork on its two sides, and a special booklet containing a newly written story by the original author.
