A tale of warm friendship on a freezing battlefield

Valkyria Chronicles is an original tactical RPG series that had recorded more than one million sales worldwide at the time of this release. This entry tells a human drama through war in a fictional Europe, with a new story and new characters.

The distinctive CANVAS rendering system, which resembles hand-drawn illustrations, and the innovative BLiTZ battle system, which combines strategy and action, evolve further with the latest technology. Here is a landmark entry in the Valkyria Chronicles series that shook the world.

The game's artistic and musical world brings together character designs by Raita Honjo, music by Hitoshi Sakimoto and a theme song by Mai Kuraki.

“That war was our youth”

In the year 1935, the European continent is divided between the Federation, an alliance of republican nations, and the autocratic Empire.

The Federation struggles against the Empire's overwhelming military resources. To reverse its disadvantage, it launches Operation Northern Cross, a massive counteroffensive intended to strike the imperial capital by surprise.

Claude, a member of the Federation's Squad E participating in the operation, faces tests of his bonds with his comrades, the hopes entrusted to him and his determination to accomplish his mission amid many sacrifices.

The story depicts a youth that could only have unfolded under the fires of war: sorrowful, yet burning with passion.

CANVAS: hand-drawn illustrations moving in 3D

CANVAS brings hand-painted watercolour illustrations to life. It pursues a stronger hand-drawn feeling, greater visual density and a warmer, more intricate expression.

Offset outlines, colours that spill beyond their edges, shadows drawn with diagonal lines and sound effects appearing as written words create a distinctive game world and draw players into its story.

BLiTZ: strategy meets action

The battle system combining strategy and action advances in many ways: maps on the largest scale the series had yet seen, more units and new soldier classes.

Artillery interception adds to the atmosphere of its battlefields. Actively move characters through the field, repel enemy forces and experience rushing across the battlefield in real time.
