Higurashi: When They Cry — Gou, Volume 4

A completely new work, taking you to a Hinamizawa no one yet knows. A new project begins for the legendary Higurashi: When They Cry series that once captivated a generation. Face the never-ending tragedy once more!

Higurashi returns Ryukishi 07 created the scenario, character designs and computer graphics for the independently produced sound novel game Higurashi: When They Cry. First released in 2002, its story enthralled fans across Japan with horror, mystery, abundant foreshadowing and developments in which each mystery brought another. Its long-awaited television anime adaptation became a major hit in 2006. This legendary favourite expanded into original video animation, manga, live-action films, merchandise and many other media. A new anime adaptation now gives it a fresh appearance. Set in the secluded village of Hinamizawa, with fewer than 2,000 inhabitants, this chilling mystery began broadcasting in October 2020.

Specialists bring a new Higurashi to life Veteran director Keiichiro Kawaguchi, whose work includes Zettai Karen Children and Frame Arms Girl, directs the series. Series composition is by Naoki Hayashi, known for A 3! Character design is by acclaimed animator Akio Watanabe, known for the Bakemonogatari series and Fireworks, Should We See It from the Side or the Bottom? Kenji Kawai returns as composer from the earlier Higurashi series. Animation production is by Passione, the studio behind High School DxD Hero, Interspecies Reviewers and other widely discussed titles. The characters are reborn in an appealing and striking new presentation.

Original first-production presentation The original announcement promoted lavish first-production editions, with outer cases newly illustrated by character designer Akio Watanabe, club activity goods and special booklets for each volume. For Volume 4, the announced first-production contents were: An outer case newly illustrated by Akio Watanabe. Storyboards. Original hanafuda cards, Part 3: a 12-card set including newly drawn anime illustrations. A special booklet. A bonus serial code for the mobile game Higurashi: When They Cry — Mei. These physical first-production extras depend on the actual pressing and are not guaranteed with every standard new copy.

Historical game code — expired The originally advertised items were four Higurashi Gou BD/DVD Volume 1 seals, one guaranteed SSR gacha ticket, 40 small sparkling pens, 10 medium sparkling pens, five large sparkling pens, 15 large marker pens, two extra-large ohagi, 200 training boxes in Earth and 200 training boxes in Pale Ink. The advertised redemption period was February 24, 2021 to February 23, 2022 at 23:59. Each account could receive the items once, and a used serial code could not be entered again. This promotion has expired; game rewards are not available as an active purchase benefit. The original Amazon announcement stated that qualifying earlier reservations would also receive the bonus, that supplies were limited and would end when exhausted, and that orders reserved by release day would normally qualify, with later bonus-bearing shipments possible depending on stock. It limited this inclusion to products sold and shipped by Amazon.jp. These are historical retailer and first-production conditions, rather than a guarantee from the currently selected marketplace seller.

For Keiichi, who previously lived in the city, the lively, peaceful days spent with his Hinamizawa friends seem like happiness that will last forever. Until the day of the village's annual Watanagashi festival... June 1983. When the higurashi cicadas cry. Everyday life suddenly comes to an end, and an unstoppable chain of tragedies begins.
