To the original story—and new fragments

Higurashi: When They Cry Hou, originally released for Nintendo Switch on July 26, 2018 and PlayStation 4 on January 24, 2019, returns in a more affordable edition.

Boasting an overwhelming volume of 23 scenarios, this EG THE BEST version commemorated the announcement of a new anime adaptation.

Prologue

Early summer, 1983. The heat has arrived earlier than usual this June. During the day, the cicadas sing; at dusk, the evening cicadas join in chorus.

Deep in the mountains, far from the city, lies the impoverished village of Hinamizawa. In this village of fewer than two thousand people, it happens every year.

The series of mysterious deaths in Hinamizawa.

On a particular day each June, one person dies and another disappears.

A chain of deaths grows out of the conflict over an enormous dam project.

Strange incidents are covered up. Tragedy repeats itself.

Is it a conspiracy? A coincidence? Or... a curse?

Someone who should be here is missing. Someone who should not be here is present.

The person you met last night is no longer alive. And the person standing here now is no longer alive.

Is tragedy unavoidable? Is surrender the only choice?

But do not surrender.

Carve out your destiny with your own hands.
