Space Battleship Yamato Animation

A story of resistance continues from Yamato 2205. Yamato begins a new voyage beyond time and space, with resistance at the heart of the series' fiftieth year.

Be Forever Yamato and Space Battleship Yamato III, both released in 1980, are reinterpreted and rebuilt into a new story. The latest instalment in Japan's enduring science-fiction anime series is ready to weigh anchor.

It is the year 2207, two years after the disappearance of the homeworld of Gamilas and the planet Iscandar. Suddenly, a mysterious immense object called the Grand Reverse appears in the solar system. Despite the Earth Defence Force's valiant efforts, it easily breaks through successive defensive networks and descends calmly toward Earth's new capital.

Groups of soldiers appear without a sound, and multi-legged tanks land on the surface. The capital is seized in an instant. Does Earth have any way left to resist?

At that moment, the former Yamato fleet crew receives a top-secret order: assemble aboard Yamato. A mysterious singing voice can be heard, and an enigmatic man murmurs, "I have returned." What is the startling true identity of the invaders? With humanity's fate at stake, Space Battleship Yamato begins a voyage into unexplored time and space.

Supplementary features revisit the AnimeJapan stage presentation and the story so far, alongside opening footage without credits, promotional trailers and audio commentaries. The release includes a special record collection and newly illustrated cover artwork. The original first-production edition also offered an illustrated sleeve and a clear-black Ginga model; these limited extras depend on remaining first-production stock and are not guaranteed.
